Durham Castle, built in the 11th century, is home to over 100 students. But did you know that it is also home to Frederick Copeman, one of the very first students to attend Durham University in the early 19th century? Legend has it that after thinking that he failed his exams, he leapt to his death from the Cathedral Tower. However it later emerged that he had in fact passed but his name was hidden by the pin holding the names up. His room (Room 21) is now in disuse after both students and staff reported poltergeist activity.
