10 Google Chrome Extensions That Will Change Your Life
10. Adblock Plus
Ok, this one is a really obvious one, If you haven't heard of Adblock then you've probably been living under a rock. If it needs explaining, the open-sourced extension allows you to - among other things - block annoying ads, disable tracking and block domains known to spread malware. There's been hell on about it since it launched a few years ago, there's obviously a few different versions but Adblock Plus is the biggest and most popular one out of them all. Since the app has been around since 2011 and has been upsetting digital advertising companies ever since. A recent report from PageFair and Adobe said that the growth of adblockers would cost the industry a staggering $22bn for 2015 alone. Some sites have now started turning around and blocking users who have the extension installed but this was only a select few companies. Most recently, Yahoo has had enough of people using its email system without looking at the accompanying adverts. The company is now preventing people gaining access to their emails if they are using adblocking software. This is because, like many things on the internet, Yahoo mail is a free service, paid for by advertising. Don't let this put you off though, Google handily lets you turn it off on specific pages and all you'll need to do is refresh the page to view it with the adverts.
