The ruins of the future, today. These abandoned resort pods are like something out of Grand Designs: Kawaii. Originally intended to be a holiday resort for US soldiers who were posted out in Taiwan, these UFO houses look like what the sixties imagined the nineties would be. The sort of houses where people would come to marvel at the toaster, the robot butler, and the refrigerator with a built in ice factory. The project was scrapped in 1980 due to funding issues leaving these houses to juxtapose the landscape like brightly coloured fruity pebbles. Legend goes that the Sanzhi resort might have been doomed from the outset when road works disturbed and broke an old Chinese dragon sculpture during construction, apparently leading to several fatal car accidents and apparent suicides on site. Or that it was possibly being built on the mass burial grounds of Dutch soldiers. Either way, the Taiwanese government didnt fancy its chances, and with the prospect of either angry, undead Dutch soldiers or Chinese dragon curses or possibly both, the buildings were demolished in 2008 to make way foranother tourist resort? Are you kidding me Taiwan?
