10 Heartbreaking Moments When You Realise You're Too Old For Things

9. School Gets Harder and Harder

The progression through school life is something we all have to go through, and every year we complain about it getting more and more difficult. The days of the SATs (not the American ones) are long gone. We didn't have to worry about grades, just getting through the paper - because those things were easy. Suddenly, you find yourself thrust into the jaws of secondary education. If you were lucky, a few of your primary school friends would be alongside you. Others would find themselves completely on their own. Now you were expected to take complete responsibility of your books, and dealt a bad hand when it came to homework. At lunchtimes, you wondered if you could play tag or hide-and-seek, but everybody else was more interested in the crafty cigarette behind the bike shed. From then on, you are hit with a tirade of end-of-year exams; GCSEs; A-Levels; university exams; dissertations and so much more, before you're thrown out of the educational institute's front door and left to fend for yourself in the real world. The only option is to dust yourself down, pick up a suit and try your best not to fall through the cracks. It's hard and it only gets harder as you wonder what ever happened to your two-plus-two's and spending the afternoon learning to join your letters. We definitely need a drink after that one.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
