10 Heartbreaking Moments When You Realise You're Too Old For Things

3. You're Too Big For The Bouncy Castle

Depending on how fast you grow, this one happened to you at different stages. I was a pretty tall lad so I took the hit early on. Picture the scene - you're at a friends birthday party and they have a behemoth of a bouncy castle sitting on the front lawn. All the parents are there to supervise and you desperately want to have a go. You spring on and start jumping up and down like a madman until you hear the one thing you don't want to: "Get off that thing, it's for the little ones!" It is that awful moment, when you realise you're no longer a 'little one' and can't join in with the fun. The exact same thing applied to funhouses and play areas. You'd arrive at Pirate's Paradise or Wacky Warehouse only to find some spotty part-time teenager standing in your way. "You're too tall," they'd say, and turn you away to sit down with the parents. But hey, at least you can get on all the rides at the funfair now right?

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
