7. Operation Mockingbird
Operation Mockingbird was an extensive secret campaign by the CIA with the objective of tendentiously influencing the mass media in the United States and abroad.
The origin of the entire operation in terms of its economic support was some funds directed to the reconstruction program of Europe destroyed after World War II, called the Marshall Plan, actually directed to the Office of Political Coordination precursor division of the newly founded CIA.
One of the main objectives was to use CIA journalists as spies and spread propaganda against communism.
The CIA was so effective in its efforts that in the 1950s they had managed to infiltrate American companies, media and universities with tens of thousands of agents who were on call and ready to act at any time.
It has also been discovered that the CIA funded more than one movie, including the animated version of Animal Farm by George Orwell.
Finally, the CIA Mockingbird operation was published in 1975 and the Operation ceased to exist.
