9. Sons And Co. - Let’s Get Tough

The misleadingly named Sons and Co. are sketch duo Fiona Simpson and Imogen Edmundson. The two play a classic double act dynamic, with Simpson the self-proclaimed “sexy one” and Edwards her put upon sidekick.

The show is filled with wilfully silly sketches with simmering tensions between the two escalating across the hour. The show is a self defence manual for those of us who need defending from colleagues, family and friends.

Highlights include Edwards playing the pair’s male friend Paul, a cipher for toxic masculinity and a “massive fool.”

The show hits it peak with Simpson forcing Edmundson into a practice date with an audience member. It’s a masterclass on how to do crowd work that heaps faux-embarrassment on the act themselves and spares the audience member any humiliation.

Both stand up comedians in their own right, Sons and Co. make for a delightfully entertaining pair. This debut show is hopefully just the start of a fruitful collaboration.
