7. Skip
Artist: David Batchelor
Location: Brighton, England That's right, it's just an old skip with some lights on it. This wouldn't be particularly noteworthy - if an amateur artist wants to do some weird experimental art, then who's to question them? However, the imaginatively titled "Skip" was created by David Batchelor as part of the the town's annual arts festival, funded as part of a £95,000 government grant. Needless to say, many Brighton residents were unimpressed. When curator Celia Davies was asked if she was concerned whether people would just use it to throw their rubbish into, she responded by saying, "As long as it doesnt cause a health and safety issue, we dont mind." That just about sums it up really.
