6. Bewitched Statue
Artists: Elliot and Ivan Schwartz
Location: Salem, Massachusetts This statue of Samantha Stevens from popular sitcom Bewitched might not appear too disastrous at first glance. Sure, the face is a little bit creepy, but there's plenty worse bronze statues in the art world. That is, until you look at the location of where the executives at TV Land decided to erect this tribute to one of America's favourite witch-based television shows. Yup, Salem. A town most notable for the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Despite the trials taking place back in 1692, it's still a touchy subject for the town's residents. As John Carr of the Salem Historic District Commission put it, "It's like TV Land going to Auschwitz and proposing to erect a statue of Colonel Klink. Putting this statue in the park near the church where this all happened, it trivializes the execution of 19 people."
