10 Hollywood Stars You Didn't Know Were Real Life Heroes

9. Kate Winslet Rescued Richard Branson's Mother From A Burning Building

The name Kate Winslet might not be synonymous with on-screen heroics but her dramatic performances have deservedly earned her a raft of awards and nominations. Her performance while staying with British billionaire Richard Branson on his $70 million Caribbean home certainly makes up for her lack of action movie credentials. In August 2011 Branson, Winslet and a number of other guests suddenly found their lives in danger after a lightning strike set fire to the Great House portion of Branson's island retreat. As Branson fled the building stark naked he realised his mother was still inside. "My mother's 90 years old and, in order €“ although she can walk €“ in order to speed the process up, (Winslet) picked my mother up and carried her, carried her out of the house, and so Kate helped rescue my mother." Branson said of the aftermath, "Necker Island is our home ... and it will be a beautiful island again. We've just got to rebuild the Great House. Fortunately the rest of the island survived, and we'll make sure it was as beautiful as it was before." No amount of money can replace your mother, and thanks to Kate Winslet Branson's remains safe and sound.
