10 Horrifying Ghost Stories That Happened In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

9. My Son's Bedroom Was Taken Over By A Ghoul

One only has to recall the scene in Ghostbusters II, when the berserk, cross-dressing spirit of Peter MacNicol's demented character, Dr. Janosz Poha, abducts Sigourney Weaver's son from the apparent safety of Peter Venkman's high-rise apartment, to comprehend just how dangerous a threat ghosts could be to children. A couple in Newcastle obviously paid heed to that particular scene on an eerie night in 2011 too, when they abruptly fled their bungalow in Newbiggin Hall amid claims their baby son's bedroom had been invaded... by ghouls. Kim Dunster and her partner Matthew White were alerted to the distress of 18-month old Thomas crying in his cot and staring into space, but put his tears down to a painful bout of teething. However, the story takes a more chilling twist when mum-of-two, Kim, noticed Thomas playing "boo" despite there being no one in the room, while the screaming toddler even began to choke himself as if possessed by a spirit and pointed into the darkness. It was then that Kim became convinced her son's room was being tormented by a ghost. Matthew even commented that it felt unusually cold in Thomas's room and that he would get goosebumps whenever he entered - very much like the conditions experienced when a ghost was present in The Sixth Sense. The family were so spooked by the chilling episode that they immediately applied for alternative accommodation and even jotted down 'ghosts' as the reason for their decision to vacate the premises on the official house change form. Their claims have since been disproved by sceptics and local psychic expert Paul Green - better known as Psychic Biker and of Extreme Ghost Hunting - who believes the mysterious "orbs" captured on video by the family are nothing but dust particles.
