10 Huge Walt Disney World 2019 Predictions

1. A Future World Makeover

I think that we can soon say goodbye to Future World as we know it and I think that this is long over due.

As much as I love Epcot, I honestly have very little love for Future World. For me, it's just an area that I walk through to get to World Showcase. I know there are some good rides (like Soarin', Test Track) but there are also some attractions that I don't have any love for (I'm thinking of you Journey into Imagination).

To me, Future World looks dated and not in a fun, quirky way like Tomorrowland. To me, the concept of Future World was flawed from the start. The idea was that it would be an edu-tainment look at technology and science. Unless Disney planned to keep those attractions fresh it was always going to become dated quick.

I came to Walt Disney World for the first time in my early 20s so had no childhood memories for the park. I could see it in its almost dilapidated state. I have a feeling that I'm not the only one out there who has no knowledge of the park in its glory days and want to see some dramatic changes.

When Disney announced that Guardians of the Galaxy would be coming to Future World, unlike many WDW fans, I felt good about this decision. In my opinion, Disney needs to build for the future and it's hard to deny that the MCU movies have a huge fanbase.

As Disney fans we need to come to terms with the inclusion of IPs into the whole park. I get that many think that it "doesn't fit" into Epcot, but in my mind, Epcot needs a new direction, after all the current one doesn't really work.

Why can't Epcot be themed around land, space and sea? Or even travel as a whole? After all the Guardians travel through space? Soarin' already fits this category, as does Test Track and even Nemo. I think a more flexible theme would fit Epcot better and allow Imagineers to get really creative with how they bring in IPs and make them work. Again the more narrowed theme that Epcot currently has is really its downfall.

At the last D23 there was a pretty interesting image of a refurbished Future World, suggesting we can expect a massive make over to the whole area. The artist impression shows that we can say good riddance to the Leave a Legacy stones at the park entrance, Innovations would be gone and a new water feature. Again, Disney are not shy of releasing art work and not following through, but I think that once all the work is complete over at Hollywood Studios, Epcot will be next on the make-over list.

I think this is coming sooner than you might think and we'll hear more about it next year. The question as to whether they'll want this up and finished in time for Epcot's 40th anniversary is something different. Disney can be notoriously slow at projects but I think there's a huge possibility Future World's update could be done in 4 years.
