There is no denying Sir Paul McCartney is a legend in music history. As a member of rock 'n roll band The Beatles, traces of McCartney's influence can be found in popular music to this very day. While many would be satisfied with McCartney's music-icon status, it appears McCartney wants credit for yet another cultural phenomenon - the selfie. During a recent interview on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Sir Paul McCartney claims to have invented the selfie... While the vintage photo of a young McCartney does predate the modern selfie, we have 10 images that prove he was not the first.
10. 1839 Robert Cornelius
While few people probably know what a daguerreotype image is nowadays, the daguerreotype was one of the earliest photographic processes ever - and Dutch-born US chemist Robert Cornelius helped perfect it. This early selfie was taken in 1839 by Cornelius outside of the family store. Not only is it one of the first selfies known to us, it is also one of the first photographs of a human to be produced.
9. 1887 - Apache Warrior Geronimo
During the late 1800s photography was wildly new and photographers were still experimenting to perfect their technique. Among other things, many photographers were juggling different lighting techniques often capturing their shadow or image in the photograph by mistake. Although not your standard selfie by definition, these photographs captured some of the earliest selfies known, albeit by accident.
