10 Incredible Roller Coasters You'll Never Get To Ride Ever Again

8. Firehawk

BATMAN ROBIN CHILLER
Kings Island

Location: Kings Island (Mason, Ohio)

Firehawk had an impressive five inversions – one vertical loop, two inline twists and four 180-degree inline twists that were each counted as a half inversion. The 180-degree elements were known as “Lie to Fly” and “Fly to Lie” in which riders on their backs were flipped to face the ground or vice versa. The coaster also featured a dual station which was connected to the main track using a switch track segment. Dual-station operation allowed for two trains to be loaded simultaneously for more efficient operation.

There was only one major incident on Firehawk. In 2009, an adult male passenger was rushed to the hospital when he suffered breathing problems immediately after trialling the ride. He died that very same day. However, it was reported that the visitor likely had a pre-existing heart condition which ultimately caused his untimely death. After an inspection from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, they determined the ride was operating within the manufacturer’s specifications and the coaster was opened just one day after the shocking event.

On the 27th of September 2018, Kings Island announced that Firehawk would close permanently the following month. It has since been demolished to make room an exciting new ‘Giga’ coaster named Orion.
