Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the UK’s greatest tourist attractions, home to some of the best amusement rides England has to offer. This includes The Wild Mouse roller coaster which served as one of the most beloved rides of the park and spanned an impressive fifty-nine years of service.

Built with wood material, it was considered the most extreme of the ‘Wild Mouse’ coasters and was always popular with visitors. Although it was a compact ride and only went as fast as 35mph, riders got an adrenaline from the sharp turns which gave the feeling that you could fall out at any second.

Sadly, The Wild Mouse was abruptly closed with no explanation or prior announcement in 2017. Although there were no extreme fatalities reported using the ride, it was obviously unsafe and needed to be shut down. The wooden material frequently needed refurbishments to be preserved, the brakes were faulty and there were reports of the wheels lifting from the tracks when turning corners.

It may be dismantled now but Blackpool’s late Wild Mouse roller coaster remains an important part of the town’s history.
