10 Mind-Blowing Facts About Che Guevara

9. He Wasn't Actually Cuban, He Was Argentinian

Although primarily associated with Cuban history and culture, Che Guevara was actually Argentinian. Born on June 14 1928 in Rosario, Argentina, Che was raised and educated in his country of birth. Following the completion of his studies and a brief and eventful stint in Guatemala, Che came to Cuba and into the company of his communist contemporaries. His exploits as a military commander, revolutionary and post-war prominent politician in Cuba have resulted in his name becoming synonymous with Cuban culture. Although eventually granted Cuban citizenship as a reward for his efforts, Che is revered throughout South America and beyond, in cultures and political systems who prize socialist values. Argentina probably feel slightly robbed of an icon, though.
