10. Cherophobia
This is the saddest phobia that could ever be. Imagine being terrified - of being happy. A happy state of mind, or being joyful in a moment are not goals for cherophobics. Happiness is an important state in Western cultures, and when one does not appear happy, this is often concerning to the people around them. In non-western cultures personal happiness is not valued in such high regard. The reason behind such a phobia can be because the phobic person believes that if they are happy, something bad might happen that will counteract this happiness, such as suffering and death. Perhaps this arose from past experiences of the consequences, or coincidences, of being happy. Whilst cherophobics arent necessarily always sad, they dont long for happiness and try to avoid an outward expression of joy.
