Spectrophobia is a fear of mirrors. Often, people afraid of mirrors are actually afraid of breaking them, believing it could lead to incredibly bad luck - 7 years of it, for some people. Alternatively, the fear can manifest due to being terrified that someone or something jumping out of the glass and harming or frightening them. Some spectrophobic people are afraid that there might be someone watching them through the mirror. Others might believe that a mirror is a window to a supernatural world that we know little about. Usually, a spectrophobic has experienced something traumatic, where they believe they have seen or heard apparitions or ghosts. Or, the phobic person may have been scared immensely by horror films or even within their own nightmares. Spectrophobia is different to eisoptrophobia, specifically the fear of your reflection, and what could stare back at you if you dare to look.
