3. Heliophobia
Many of us spend months of the year wishing for the sun to make an appearance, but heliophobes would like nothing less. Heliophobia is a fear of the sun, sunlight or bright lights. Such a fear is usually triggered by a physical trauma like intensely bad sunburn or a psychological fear of skin cancer. This phobia could also be induced by overthinking the power of the sun, considering that the burning mass in the solar system is so hot that its heat reaches us, the idea of this ball of fire can be terrifying. However, the phobia is more often associated with not wanting skin to be affected by the suns rays. Heliophobes often wear long protective clothing, or sheltering from sunlight. While this can seem like a safe practise, it can leave heliophobes not wanting to go outside and experience the world. Unfortunately, being afraid of going outside due to the sun can lead to other crippling phobias, like a fear of people or public places. The phobia can also leave sufferers lacking in vitamin D and even becoming depressed due to their isolation in dark places a scary position to be in, in itself.
