10 Mind-Blowing Pieces Of Evidence That Proves Lost City Of Atlantis Was Real
5. Minoan Expansion
Beyond just telling us what the Atlanteans did in their own territory, Plato also tells us what they did concerning the rest of the world. Supposedly, they did not just possess their one main island and several others. They also held some territory on the continent, and they were expanding more and more. This began to frighten the Greeks so much that they went to war against them.
Archaeology has proven that the Minoans did have a big impact not just on the Aegean islands, but also on some parts of the continent, like parts of Turkey. They may even have had colonies there. They also built up strong links with Egypt, and they traded with many other places, including Greece itself.
There is no real evidence that the Minoans were aggressive in their expansion, which appears to have been mainly commercial. But like with any legend, what matters is how they were perceived. It’s known from Greek legends about the Minoans that they had an extremely negative view of Minos, the legendary king of Crete. They depicted him as a power-hungry aggressor. This, combined with the historical facts about the Minoan expansion as revealed by archaeology, is a good match for Plato’s description of the Atlanteans.
