10 Most Anticipated Tech Releases Still To Come In 2015
5. Steam Controller
In an ideal world, there would exist a controller for any genre of game; one that would be a true replacement for the age-old keyboard-and-mouse combo. Imagine using a gamepad to play Civilization V on a 50-inch screen, or a fully cranked-up PC version of Battlefield 4 while kicking back on your couch. Valve has for some years been pursuing the dream of giving PCs that 'console touch' a reality, and the Steam Controller could be the next step towards reaching it. Like the Steam Machine that it will come packed with (though you will also be able to buy it separately for PCs), the Steam Controller raises plenty of eyebrows. While it will feature an analog stick and buttons (a late addition to the controller's design), the cruxes of the controller are the two large round sensor pads, which Valve claims will make it much more versatile and precise for gaming. It's a fascinating experiment and it may fall flat, but if it works then it could be a big step towards making the PC (or, Valve hopes, the Steam Machine) a viable device for your living room TV.
