10 Most Haunted Places In Scotland

5. Dalhousie Castle Hotel And Spa, Edinburgh

Again, the same tragic love story in life has resulted to a very tortured afterlife. But this isn't the scariest thing about this story. Back when the castle was in operation, the dungeon was a mini fortress within the building. With its 11 inch thick walls, prisoners were lowered into the dungeons by a rope as there weren't any doors leading into or out. The only way prisoners and torturers could access the dungeon was by being lifted in and out of it. That's a whole load of nope right there. However, the resident ghosts of the castle and hotel are Lady Catherine and Sir Alexander Ramsay. There are two versions to their legend and the first is that Lady Catherine's parents forbid her to see the love of her life - again because they believed that their relationship was socially unsuitable. Her teenage, lovestruck self locked herself in the one of the top rooms in the castle where she starved herself to death. The other is that she was the laird's mistress and once her lover's wife discovered their affair, had Catherine locked in the tower to starve. Either way, she died a horrific death in the name of love. Her ghost has been seen haunting the dungeon and the turrets of the castle.
