10 Most Haunted Places In Scotland

4. Culloden Moor, Inverness-shire

Culloden Moor has a very violent and bloody history and it's said to be so haunted that even the birds don't sing over the land; there is only dead silence. The Battle of Culloden was the last battle to take place on British soil and it was the slaughter of the Jacobite rebellion. The battle was over within forty minutes and the entire army of Bonnie Prince Charles' army was dead. Despite the Jacobites being severely outnumbered and outgunned, they went into battle without the slightest chance of winning and it was essentially a death sentence. On the day that the battle took place, 16th April (1746), the ghosts of the soldiers are said to reenact the battle and you can hear the cries of the wounded, the despair from the living surrounded by their dead comrades and the clanking of swords. There is apparently a man dressed in tartan who can be heard mumbling "defeat," and the area is not somewhere you'd want to walk by yourself.
