10 Most Likely Ways Humanity Will Become Extinct

2. There Are Simply Too Many Of Us

Much as some are loathe to admit it, Damon Albarn might have a point. Ageing Britpop act Blur made a comeback with the album The Magic Whip which was full of inelegant if inarguable political statements, the most potent of which was €œThere Are Too Many Of Us€, a treatise on over-population and the dangers that has for humanity's future. The guy who sang €œParklife€ is right, to a point. The planet is crazy overpopulated. Thomas Malthus predicted as much in the 18th century, although he was a little early to the party: it's right now that people are living way longer and far more babies are being born than there's the resources or literal space to support. Whilst some estimate the population will eventually level out and everything will be fine, breakthroughs in science and medicine could mean people survive to even greater ages and others can conceive with greater ease. Which means less food, less room, and less happiness for the rest of us. The latter isn't a killer, but it still sucks.
