10 Most Likely Ways Humanity Will Become Extinct

3. A Man-Made Disease Gets Released

The only thing that could be worse than a global pandemic slowly evolving and killing off the world's population is when/if we create our own killer virus and accidentally release it. Which doesn't necessarily mean that there are any world governments working on zombie infections, but also doesn't necessarily mean they're not, eh? In 2011, researcher messed around with the H5N1 virus and managed to come up with a strain of bird flu that was even more potent than the natural form, a mutated disease which was transmissible in ferrets and transmitted via the air. The latter of which is one of the prerequisites for a global pandemic taking hold. Since then, there's been some concern of such studies going wrong and inadvertantly releasing these mutant diseases into the world, more powerful than the already deadly regular forms. Even worse would be if somebody tweaked a virus with the explicit intent of unleashing it on the world's population and killing us all. A real d*ck move.
