Mob boss and labour leader Jimmy Hoffa made no shortage of enemies during is career, so when he disappeared in July of 1975, many claimed foul play and a long list of suspects presented itself.

Hoffa was last seen in the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan at 2am that evening, and he was declared dead by 1982.

The plot thickened when it emerged that millions of dollars had been stolen from the Teamsters' (the union he headed up) largest pension fund, and mafia bosses Anthony Giacalone and Anthony Provenzano headed up the list of suspects.

Although their motives for wanting Hoffa dead were clear, an official investigation was unable to pin any tangible evidence on them.

While the Hoffa case remains officially open, the last major development came in 2013 when the FBI searched a property in northern Oakland county for his remains based on a tip-off, and ultimately found nothing.
