Everybody now knows that this is a lie because it is what politicians say. The very ones robbing you blind of taxes while handing tax breaks to big businesses and tax avoiding millionaires never knowingly deprive you of something for your own good. Parents, of course, are not normally as cynical as this, but looking back, does it now not seem strange that you were never allowed to get a toy when dragged round the shops, but the drinks cabinet was always full when you got home?
