If you need anything tob convince you taht a place is dangerous as hell, the warning atop the wikitravel page for Mogadishu should propably do the trick.

It warns potential travellers of the "constant threat of terrorist attacks", telling us that "walking the streets of Mogadishu remains very dangerous, even with armed guards" and finally warning us that it "tourists are emphatically discouraged from visiting" and it "should be avoided at all costs".

Pretty strong stuff.

A terrible civil war has ravaged the once beautiful Somalian capital of Mogadishu, leaving it a lawless, dangerous shell of its former self. During the war, the extremist group Al-Shabab took over most of the city, reducing the government controlled areas to nothing more than a couple of blocks.

The city was eventually taken back and war has officially ceased, but it remains a hub of lawlessness where amenities are scarce and unreliable and food shortages put strain on what government presence is there. Even though the war has officially ended, terrorist activity is still a present danger.

It is slowly recovering, they even held a music festival back in 2011, but the ever-present threat of terrorism that things could return to how they were in the bad old days means that we don't recommend booking your holiday there any time soon.
