7. Photoshop Has Become A Verb
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17j5QzF3kqE The above clip illustrates what Photoshop has done, for good or bad, for the industry. On one hand, it has become an indispensable tool to photographers and designers, almost completely replacing the film darkroom. Which begs the side question: with the advances in digital photography, does anyone even use film anymore? On the other hand, it means that photography can no longer be completely trusted. Would you have believed the model in the clip above was the actual one if you saw the Photoshopped one first? For the print designer, the double-edge here is that your customers have figured out that Photoshop can work some serious miracles. Therefore, they give you almost nothing for source material and expect you to work a little magic on it, making it perfect for their purposes. Example: 72 DPI (dots per inch) is fairly standard for web photo purposes. But there isnt a print designer who hasnt been handed a web-optimized photo that the client wants to use in a brochure, then received that blank look when you try to explain that print requires a higher resolution.
