10 Psychological Novels Guaranted To Mess With Your Mind
8. Lunar Park By Brett Easton Ellis
This one will mess you up big time, and the main question you'll be asking yourself is: was it all real, or was it all made up to create a best selling novel? Lunar Park has been described as mock memoir with several of the accounts in it (and Ellis's general sentiments) reflected throughout the book. The blurred line between fiction and non-fiction are what make this novel so astoundingly strange. Lunar Park almost follows a typical horror story line genre not unlike that of Stephen King or James Herbert. The descriptions of the main character's daughter's 'Terby' doll are likely to make you want to leave the lights on at night, and the alcohol and drug abuse throughout the character's daily life will make you question whether this whole horrible creepy experience is really just a hallucination. Other rather disturbing themes throughout the novel include a fractured father/son relationship, a lecturer trying to have an affair with one of his students, and a husband completely disbelieved by his wife. We're still waiting for it be made into a film, because it would beat modern day horror movies easily. Ellis' main character is just so screwed up. It's downright mindf**kery.
I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
