10 Psychological Novels Guaranted To Mess With Your Mind

3. Tampa By Alissa Nutting

Tampa combines erotica, satire and social criticism, and addresses double standards such as gendered expectations for females regarding beauty and what women can get away with if they are young and attractive. It's interesting and it will also get you thinking about gender roles in modern day society. But. More importantly, it's a novel about a female pedophile. It's incredibly graphic. There is a lot of under-age sex in it, and even more masturbation. It's a thrilling riveting read, and the worst thing of all is how likeable the main character is in the beginning. Don't be ashamed - we all liked her to start with. Celeste, our truly bewildering messed-up protagonist, is married to a husband she hates, and is a teacher who preys on under age school boys she can manipulate to fulfil her illegal sexual desires. It's so hard to imagine that a woman would do all these things and have all these sick thoughts. It's rude, it's perhaps offensive to women, it's an eye opener to what goes on in real life but it's also one you won't want to put down.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
