10 Real-Life Curses That (Supposedly) Killed People

5. The 27 Club

The 27 Club has to be one of the most morbidly exclusive 'societies' out there. Members include musical legends such as Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Alan Wilson. Each of these musicians died at the age of 27, which is the unifying factor that earns musicians membership in the 'club'. Although the people identified as being part of the 27 Club stretches back over a century, the phenomenon wasn't coined until Kurt Cobain's death in 1994. Charles R. Cross, the biographer of Hendrix and Cobain has written that, "the number of musicians who died at 27 is truly remarkable." Cross also claims that, "there is a statistical spike for musicians who die at 27." The idea of the cursed club saw widespread attention once again in 2011, after the tragic death of singer Amy Winehouse, aged 27.
