10 Real-World Filming Locations You Really Need To Visit
10. Yavin IV From Star Wars (Tikal, Guatemala)
Although Star Wars and its sequels are mostly set in space, there was actually a lot of filming done in real-world locations, either for background plates in visual effects-shots or for whole scenes like Endor. If you've seen A New Hope, you'll remember that the plot has the Rebellion's main base on Yavin 4 and the Empire trying to stop it, but were you aware it's a real location you can actually visit? Yavin 4 is actually Tikal in Guatemala and is a national park that has some amazing features, including waterfalls, lush jungles and the temples you can see in the above image. Though you might not find the Rebel base there, you can find a burial plot with bodies that are thousands of years old and go on a tour of the various places used in the Star Wars films for a nominal charge. It was chosen mainly for its relative closeness to the USA, and if you happen to be visiting, a trip to Guatemala from LAX costs just £300 and is a must for any fans.
