6. Three Men Sue Hooters After Being Denied Jobs As Waiters
In 1997, three Chicago men sued Hooters after being denied employment at the restaurant that is famous for their scantily dressed waitresses. The men claimed that they were being discriminated against, because, at the time, Hooters typically didn't hire any male staff. Hooters agreed to settle with the men, and offered each of them $19,100. However, this lawsuit was only the beginning. In 1997, the company agreed to pay a total of $3.75 million to settle various lawsuits filed by men who weren't hired because of their gender. Since these lawsuits, Hooters offers gender neutral positions at their restaurants, such as bartenders, hosts, and cooks. But those measures taken by the American franchise weren't enough. In 2009, Nikolai Grushevski filed yet another gender discrimination lawsuit against a Corpus Christi Hooters franchisee, claiming that they wouldn't hire him because of his gender. Hooters is said to have settled out of court, but there is no word as to how much Nikolai was given.
