10 Scariest Castles In The World

3. Leap Castle €“ Ireland

On a strategic hill in County Offlay, Ireland sits a striking medieval castle. Leap Castle was built sometime between the 13th and 15th centuries by the O€™Bannon clan, secondary chieftains to the vicious O€™Carroll clan. Following the death of Mulrooney O€™Carroll, a bloody battle for power took place between his sons. One was a priest and was executed by the other while holding mass. The location of this slaughter is now referred to as The Bloody Church. The castle passed to the Darby family, back to the Bannons and then was purchased by musician Sean Ryan who is undertaking restoration work. Visitors to the castle have reported the typical voices, footsteps, whispers and slamming doors, which must be contained in some Handbook for the Recently Deceased. The stranger claims, however, surround a small, woodland creature that crawls around on all fours. He€™s accompanied by the stench of rotting corpses. Referred to as It or The Elemental, he was first encountered by the Darby family who documented his sighting in a supernatural publication. Some residents have suggested that the creature is telling us to better care for the land and preserve the Earth. Others just think he just needs a bath.
