10 School Lessons That Would Be Far More Useful Than Algebra
3. How To Buy A House
The biggest, most expensive purchase you'll ever make - if you can actually save and/or pay off the mortgage payments - and no one thought it might be worth teaching a class on this? On top of all the complicated paperwork and a rainbow of different mortgage options that a new buyer has to contend with, there is finding and choosing the right house. What should you be looking for? What should you be asking the estate agent? Should you be worried about that mould in the corner, or will it wash off? Because - and here's something else no-one probably mentioned in algebra - though a house is not necessarily for life, you can get stuck in a home or a neighbour you don't like if you're tied to a mortgage and/or have limited income. Basically, if you're not in a high flying job or Bill Gates, its worth being cautious about the house you choose, you may be there a while.
