10 Secrets Only Two People In The World Know
6. The Meaning Behind Carly Simon's You’re So Vain
The subject of Carly Simon's 1972 hit You're So Vain probably thinks that song is about them, but only two people on the planet can tell them for sure.
Over the years, reports have claimed that the revenge classic is aimed at a number of famous men, including actor Warren Beatty, Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and late rock star David Bowie. Simon has dropped hints about the target's identity over the years and one of the reports is partially true.
The singer has confirmed that one verse in the song is aimed at Beatty, whom she once dated, but the bulk of the lyrics are directed towards two men who remain unnamed to this day.
Only Simon herself knows the full truth, along with NBC executive Dick Ebersol, who paid $50,000 for the privledge.
