Mystery: Billy Craig and his father were murder victims, after being shot by an unidentified IRA hitman. The hitman had been generally careful about covering up his crime, and the only evidence left behind was a half-eaten apple and some entry cartridges. Explanation: It turned out that the apple was critical to finding the identity of the mysterious killer. The apple was sent by forensic analysts to a professor of orthodontics. The professor surmised that the killer had a slightly deformed jaw, due to the unusual bite marks. Based purely on the information left by the marks, he was able to deduce that the killer had a long thin face, a high forehead, a large nose and a lantern jaw. One of the suspects matched this description, so casts were made of his teeth. When compared to the marks left in the apple, it was discovered that there was an almost 100% chance that this was their man, landing the hitman with seven life sentences in prison.
