On 2 July 1955, Pan Am Flight 914 is alleged to have taken off from New York and headed to Miami with 57 passengers and 4 crew members on board. Shortly after takeoff, all contact was lost with the aircraft. Several searches turned up zero clues on what may have happened and it was eventually assumed that Flight 914 crashed into the sea.

On 9 September 1992, air traffic controllers in Caracas were stunned when an aircraft appeared seemingly out of thin air without being picked up on their radar. One of the controllers, Juan de la Corte managed to establish contact with the plane and heard the pilot say that he was flying Pan Am Flight 914 and was scheduled to land in Miami at 9:55 on 2 July 1955.

Once the plane landed, de la Corte informed the pilot that it was in fact 1992 and that the plane was in Venezuela, not Miami. The pilot then freaked out and wouldn’t let anyone near the plane. Instead he took off and the plane disappeared yet again. The story goes that the plane eventually landed in Miami and when the passengers and crew disembarked it was clear they hadn’t aged one bit since 1955...

Naturally this story has been debunked many times over, but that hasn’t stopped enthusiasts from relating it around a lonely campfire or over Halloween.
