6. In God We Don€™t Trust

After the National Report website reported that Obama had ordered the removal of €˜In God We Trust€™ from U.S. currency, social media went into a frenzy. The article was shared by hundreds of thousands of Facebook users, and the news was met by horror, celebration and anger. What those suckered in by the story didn€™t realise, is that the National Report is an entirely satirical site, much in the same vein as the more famous Onion. The article had come about around the same time that a popular petition on the White House government site had been in the news, arguing that words should be removed. The hoax died out almost as quickly as it sprung up, but it did add fuel to the debate regarding the separation of church and state.
