6. Americans Are War-Mongerers
http://youtu.be/2Rlqjxst6xU In this instance, I feel that it is quite a modern assumption about America, as it is not not exactly applicable to the most of the 19th/20th centuries. Nobody in America could have felt pleased to be involved in a civil war, and despite the claims of Americans that they 'saved' the Allied forces in both WW1 and WW2, they tried their best to avoid both conflicts. War is an awful, gruesome thing, and those that have suffered loss and pain through this institution will understand that more than any, and Americans, like many other nations, have suffered a great deal in war. What some may perceive as war-mongering is often just a necessary response to a difficult situation. Okay, I understand that this doesn't seem like the greatest base for humor at the moment. So, now that I have gotten the fact that Americans don't actively seek war out of the way, I would like to argue the case that the Americans have an unique attitude towards war. This is often linked to the fact that some young Americans, not so in-tune with their nation's history, believe that they won the war against Vietnam. That is, extraordinarily enough, not the case. Furthermore, the amount of argument that surrounds the real reason behind the invasion of Iraq in 2001 leaves the question in turm-OIL. There is scope to debate the idea that America wants to police the entire world, and would use war to ensure it is run the American way. But this is concerning the actions of those in the highest offices of the American government and armed forces, and certainly should not correlate with the majority. People need to understand that war has changed since the bugles and sword-fighting of the Middle Ages - there is very little glory, and a great deal of suffering. Of course Americans take pride in their military victories and have tried to forget their defeats, but that is the same with every nation. They are no more war-mongerers than any other nation, and I'll fight anybody that says otherwise. Level of Brit Stupidity: 6
