10 Terrifying Creatures That You’ll Be Glad Are Extinct
1. Spinosaurus
Spinosaurus is the dino responsible for knocking T-rex off the top spot as everyone's favourite brutal killing machine. Whilst the name is not quite as cool as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus does have the advantage of being able to eat it for breakfast.
Its six foot jaw contained an array of teeth that served many different purposes, it grew up to 18 metres - making it the largest land predator to ever live - and neither hell nor high water could stop it, as it could even swim.
Unfortunately, the original fossil for Spinosaurus was destroyed in the Second World War. Luckily, palaeontologist Ernst Stromer von Reichenbach made detailed studies of the remains before their destruction so that we are still able to study it from the nice, safe distance of 65 million years.
