Think of the terror that strikes anyone at the thought of crocodile infested water and then times that by a 12 metre super croc. Sarcosuchus lived during the Cretaceous Period, doing all of the things that crocodiles do, swimming around, sunbathing and occasionally chowing down on a big old dinosaur. Yep. It ate dinosaurs. The big ones.

The supercroc would continue to grow for its entire life, so the sky really was the limit for this killing machine, and it allowed the to grow to at least twice the size of its biggest modern counterparts and weigh up to 10 tonnes.

Its diet probably mainly consisted of the unsuspecting fish that swam near it, presumably mistaking it for an entire tree, but it is thought that it will have done battle with any dinosaur that crossed its path, including the ferocious Spinosaurus as the two were thundering about the earth at the same time. Now that is a showdown we'd like to see.
