Sea scorpions, does any more need to be said?

The Jaekelopterus was an absurdly frightening predatorial eurypterid - which were a group of aquatic arthropods. The race was composed primarily of two subspecies, one being J. rhenaniae and J. howelli, and they were both intimidating creatures. The larger rhenaniae is the focus though as it's believed they would reach heights of two metres, making them able to tower over most modern humans.

This race of beasts are known to have inhabited freshwater environments and existed in the Pragian and Emsian stages of the Early Devonian age. The main attributes to their physiques were enlarged pincers and forearms combined to an expanded telson - that being the hindmost body segment of the creature. Its pincers and resemblance to the modern-day scorpion leads to speculation that they could be ancestors to the creatures and other arachnid species.

There likely would need to be some liberties taken in regards to how to make the creatures a threat, as although they certainly were predatory, it seems that they frequented rivers and swamps. Thus there would need to be some creativity employed to allow human characters to be trapped by them.

Despite this, these largest known living arthropods would be the stuff of nightmares if found in film form.
