10 Terrifying Vampire Stories For Halloween
6. Vlad III Dracula: The Vampire Prince
No list of vampire stories would be complete without mentioning Vlad Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler as he came to be known. Dracula was the Prince of Wallachia and the historical inspiration behind Bram Stokers 1897 novel Dracula. Vlad was born in 1431 and grew up to be a fearsome warrior prince who led war upon the Ottoman Empire.
Vlad is perhaps best remembered for his cruel side and gruesome methods of punishment. He was widely reported as being a sadistic tyrant who looked upon torture as a means of fun and entertainment.
His favourite method of execution and torture was impalement and it is estimated that he killed between 50,000 and 100,000 people during his reign of terror. Although most of the vampire lore surrounding Prince Dracula comes from Stokers novel, it is documented that he would sit and dine amongst the bodies of his impaled victims and even dip bread into their blood.
