An interesting fact about Henry VIII is that he regularly self-medicated instead of calling upon the help of royal doctors and physicians. He even kept a book of prescriptions so he could monitor the remedies he had been administering himself to deal with his various illnesses. After self-prescribing a remedy for ulcers, Henry wrote in his book: "An Oyntment devised by the kinges Majesty made at Westminsters. And devised at Grenwich to take away inflammations and to cease payne and heale ulcers called gray plaster."
