It is a little-known fact that as well as King of England, Henry VIII was also a best selling author. Interestingly the book, Assertio Septem Sacramentoerum (or Defence of the Seven Sacraments), was published in 1521 - some 13 years before the establishment of the Church of England - and offered a staunch defence of Catholicism and the Pope, instead heavily criticising German priest and reformer Martin Luther. A total of 20 editions were printed in Europe and he was given the title of Fidei Defensor ("Defender of the Faith") by Pope Leo X for the work. See, Henry was a good Catholic boy after all...
