10 Things That Have Been Completely Ruined In 2015
7. The NFL
Sport should be a place we go to escape. Where would our evenings and our weekends be if they weren't devoted to watching adults run full speed at each other or kick a ball towards a guy standing guard over a net or witness 7 footers fly through the air to dunk on a rim that was just minding its own business? Where would our summer be without Serena? Would we be forced to watch even more television or, worse, interact with our loved ones? We need sport to keep us (relatively) sane. So it's a shame that, in 2015, we must finally say our sad farewells to one of the most popular sports in the world: American football. Sure, it still technically exists but it's been bastardised beyond all recognition and the organisation that runs it are beginning to make FIFA look like fine, upstanding members of the global community. Between the TV network mandated slowing-down-of-games, the flippancy about domestic abuse and so many other failings, the NFL is now nigh unwatchable. It's hard to enjoy a good hard block when you learn the statistics about the fates of retired football players (96% of whom suffer from permanent brain injuries). It's impossible to root for the Dallas Cowboys when you witness their unquestioning support for Greg Hardy, who has recently returned to play after his 2014 arrest for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. And then there's the whole "Deflategate" or "Ballghazi" saga (pick your portmanteau) because apparently the NFL can't even keep its balls in order.
