10 Things You Didn't Know About Space Mountain
1. Buzz Aldrin Was There When It Opened In Paris
Gordon Cooper wasn't the only astronaut to be involved with the opening of a Space Mountain attraction.
When Disneyland Paris opened Space Mountain in Discovery Land astronaut Buzz Aldrin was there to help open the attraction. Aldrin was also on hand to help Disneyland in Anaheim with the relaunch of Space Mountain in 2005.
In fact NASA astronauts have been on hand to open a number of Space Mountains. At Disneyland, 6 of the original 7 Mercury astronauts were there to see the attraction open.
James Irwin who piloted the Lunar Module on Apollo XV was there for the opening of the ride at Walt Disney World. Irwin was given the first official ride on the attraction. The 8th man to walk on the moon gave the attraction the thumbs up!
If it's a ride good enough for a man who drove a rover on the moon, it's good enough for us.
