10 Things You Didn't Know About Cameron Diaz
3. She Tried Out For The Mask "As A Joke"
When casting began for The Mask, producer Dark Horse Entertainment originally intended model Anna Nicole Smith to take the part of Tina Carlyle. However, it was Cameron Diaz - also a model at the time - who eventually turned their heads.
It wasnt entirely straightforward for Diaz to land the role; in fact, she was not even seriously interested in acting at the time. When she noticed the part being advertised on a flyer, she jokingly suggested to her modelling agent that she should audition for the part. Her manager didnt think Diaz was kidding, and encouraged a tryout.
Twelve callbacks later, and the neophyte star bagged the role. The Mask unexpectedly became the highest grossing film of 1994, and Diaz became a sex symbol and a star overnight.
